Symphytum officinale

Infamous and effective, Comfrey has a reputation dating back thousands of years. It was traditionally called boneknit, and its latin name symphytum is derived from the Greek word symphis, meaning growing together of bones, and python, meaning plant. An ancient rumor holds that leaves of comfrey dropped into a pot of stew will join all of the pieces of meat back together, however that claim has not been investigated by any scientific authorities to date!

Comfrey is one of the most important herbs in our medicine cabinet so we take great care to select only organic S. Officinale, a gentle species which contains minimal amounts of pyrrolizidine alkaloids, but is naturally high in allantoin, the plant’s primary beneficial cell-stimulating component. The leaves are then blessed with healing intention and combined with organic extra virgin olive oil to preserve the entire range of botanical constituents, creating the rich infusion that forms the base for many of our herbal salves.
